Petkim picks Technip Energies for licence and FEED work on a proposed petrochemical complex at Aliağa

Petkim, the Turkish subsidiary of Azerbaijan's SOCAR, has awarded Technip Energies the licence for a large mixed feed ethylene cracker together with the process design package and front end engineering design (FEED) for a proposed integrated petrochemical complex at Aliağa, Technip Energies announced on 29 September 2026.

The proposed complex targets about 1,200,000 tonnes a year of ethylene, 550,000 tonnes of propylene, 550,000 tonnes of polypropylene and 850,000 tonnes of HDPE and LLDPE from two lines of 425,000 tonnes each. The contracts cover the licensing, design and FEED phases that come before a possible final investment decision, and no contract value was disclosed.

The award is an engineering step, not a commitment to build.

None of the planned units make propylene oxide, polyols or isocyanates, so the project would not add polyurethane raw materials directly. It is still a sign of continued investment in Türkiye's petrochemical base.
