Technical overview

Cold-cure flexible polyurethane systems for moulded seating

A flexible polyurethane system produces what most people simply call foam: an open-cell structure that gives under load and recovers its shape when the load is removed. Low-density foams are generally made as slabstock, while higher-density parts are moulded one by one. JiTPOL supplies systems for both routes: slabstock (block) foam systems, including TDI-based ones, and the cold-cure systems for moulded parts described on this page. Each cold-cure system is a two-component, water-blown system: a JiTPOL polyol blend reacted with a JITIZO isocyanate, a prepolymer based on monomeric MDI. As a polyurethane system house in Bursa, we supply the two components as a matched system, so you receive a ready-to-use system rather than separate chemicals to blend on site.

These systems are used to mould automotive and other motor-vehicle seats, furniture and office seating, conference seating, chairs, display mannequins and medical products. They suit these parts because they combine three things: low free-rise density, an adjustable hardness range and a smooth surface skin on the moulded part. Together these give a part-weight advantage in production. The same polyol blend can be paired with different JITIZO prepolymers to give a standard, soft or medium-soft foam. Where flame retardancy is required, a separate formulation with flame-retardant properties is available, and it also performs well in demanding moulds and processes.

Choosing a cold-cure system starts with the part: the feel you are aiming for (standard, soft or medium-soft), the part weight you are working to, the surface finish you need, and whether a flame-retardancy requirement applies. Then comes the line: your mould, your dispensing equipment, the mould release agent you use and your cycle. With more than 700 formulations behind us, we treat each system as a custom polyurethane formulation, adjusting the polyol blend and its prepolymer pairing so the system fits your line rather than the other way round. For suitable projects, our technical team can also visit your line and run production trials with you.
