South Korea's OCI to stop making and selling TDI from 18 December 2026

OCI Co., Ltd. of South Korea announced in a regulatory filing dated 29 September 2026 that its board has decided to discontinue its TDI manufacturing and sales business, effective 18 December 2026. The business accounts for KRW 117.9 billion of revenue, or 5.87% of the company's most recent consolidated revenue of KRW 2.01 trillion.

Korean outlets Newspim and EBN put the plant's capacity at about 50,000 tonnes a year and say OCI has supplied major domestic customers as well as China, Türkiye and Southeast Asia since entering the business in the 1990s. Both cite growing competition from expanding Chinese TDI capacity and exports, and OCI's filing describes the decision as streamlining a marginal business.

The OCI in this story is the South Korean chemical maker OCI Co., Ltd., not the Netherlands listed fertiliser and methanol group OCI N.V.

TDI is the main isocyanate for flexible slabstock foam. The exit of a supplier that has shipped to Türkiye removes one more source outside China at a time when TDI supply is already tight.
