BorsodChem Zrt, the Hungarian subsidiary of Wanhua Chemical Group, issued a price adjustment notice on 18 August 2026 covering its three main polyurethane raw material lines in Europe. MDI rises by EUR 200 per tonne, TDI by EUR 350 per tonne and polyols by EUR 300 per tonne, all effective immediately from the date of the notice, according to ChemNet. The stated reason is "the significant increase in raw material and energy costs in the European region". The notice adds that "the specific execution price is subject to the contract terms between both parties", so what customers actually pay will vary.
BorsodChem produces at Kazincbarcika in Hungary and is one of only two TDI producers remaining in Europe, which gives the TDI line in this notice more weight than its position in the table suggests. It is also the closest large MDI, TDI and polyol producer to Türkiye, and therefore a working reference point for what European-origin material costs delivered.
The shape of the increase is the signal. On the notice's own table TDI moves EUR 350, polyols EUR 300 and MDI EUR 200, so the steepest announced input inflation this quarter falls on the flexible and viscoelastic side rather than on rigid MDI-based systems. A converter buying across both ranges cannot apply a single blanket uplift and stay accurate.
Two qualifications sit inside the notice itself. The first is timing: it takes effect immediately from 18 August rather than at the start of a month or quarter, which compresses the window for orders in flight. The second is the contract clause quoted above, which means the published figures are an opening position rather than an invoice. It is also worth noting that BorsodChem sits inside Wanhua Chemical Group, and that this notice follows by roughly a fortnight the overseas MDI increases its parent announced for the Middle East, Africa and Türkiye.
For a systems house or a foam producer the useful exercise is to reprice by chemistry rather than by supplier. Rigid MDI-based systems for cold rooms, sandwich panels and refrigerated bodies carry the smallest of the three announced increases; flexible and viscoelastic foam carries the largest; products whose formulation leans heavily on polyol content sit between them. Buyers should also confirm whether their own contracts contain the same execution-price clause, because that sentence, not the headline figure, determines what is invoiced.
