Wanhua raises MDI by USD 200 per tonne for Türkiye, the Middle East and Africa

Wanhua Chemical has raised prices for its full MDI range in the Middle East, Africa and Türkiye by USD 200 per tonne, effective 3 August 2026, according to ChemNet. The notice followed an identical USD 200 per tonne increase on MDI and TDI in Southeast Asia from 29 July. Huntsman moved in the same window, adding USD 300 per tonne on MDI and polyurethane systems in India and the Indian subcontinent from 27 July, and EUR 250 per tonne on all MDI products in Europe, Africa and the Middle East from 1 August 2026. ChemNet attributes the increases to rising raw material and energy costs combined with constrained circulation in global supply chains.

ChemNet reads the simultaneity as a function of how the industry is built. "Global MDI capacity is highly concentrated, with leading enterprises such as Wanhua Chemical, Covestro, BASF, and Huntsman occupying the vast majority of capacity," the report states, describing the outcome as price resonance between producers rather than as separate commercial decisions that happen to coincide.

The round was not limited to MDI. ChemNet reports that Shanghai BASF set its August TDI list price at RMB 19,000 per tonne, RMB 1,000 above the previous month, so the pressure showed up on both of the main isocyanate lines in the same weeks.

The effective dates are close enough to read as one sequence: Huntsman's Indian subcontinent increase on 27 July, Wanhua's Southeast Asia increase on 29 July, Huntsman's Europe, Africa and Middle East increase on 1 August, and Wanhua's Middle East, Africa and Türkiye increase on 3 August. These are announced notices with stated effective dates. ChemNet does not report the transaction prices actually realised, which in isocyanates generally depend on the terms of each supply contract.

For a systems formulator the operative number is the USD 200 per tonne on the isocyanate side, because it is the figure a customer will quote back when a system price is revised. Türkiye is named explicitly in Wanhua's notice rather than being folded into a regional catch-all, and Huntsman's EUR 250 per tonne covers Europe, Africa and the Middle East, so both of the main supply routes into the Turkish market carry an announced increase inside the same fortnight. The practical questions are whether existing purchase contracts are fixed or indexed, whether orders already placed fall before or after the effective dates above, and how much of the increase is absorbed before it reaches a formulated price.
