A spray system is processed where it will be used: on the roof, the wall, the tank or the foundation, not in a mould or on a panel line. Your high-pressure or low-pressure machine meters the two components, which meet at the spray gun, and the fast-reacting mixture adheres to vertical surfaces and complex geometries. On roofs and flat roofs, spray polyurethane foam goes down as one continuous insulation layer, without the joints that board insulation leaves. The same approach serves building envelope insulation on walls and facades, and cold stores built on site, where the walls and ceilings are insulated in place. Polyurethane foams are also used for sound insulation.
Where the problem is water rather than heat, polyurea is the other side of the range. Like spray foam, it is a two-component system mixed at the spray gun, but it is formulated for a different job: sprayed polyurea forms a seamless waterproofing layer, not an insulation layer. It is used for waterproofing work in general and for underground waterproofing of below-grade structures, such as foundations. Beyond buildings, spray systems are also used to coat industrial tanks; there, too, the fast-reacting mixture adheres to vertical surfaces and complex geometries.
