Technical overview

Polyurethane systems for refrigerator, cooler and hot-water-tank insulation

In a refrigerator or an industrial cooler, the insulation is foamed in place. A two-component rigid polyurethane system is injected into the cavity, where it expands, flows through the space and cures into rigid insulating foam. Our refrigerator systems were developed first for this job. They bond well to the facings and fill the cavity evenly, without voids, at insulation thicknesses from 4 to 20 cm. That matters, because a void left in the wall is a gap in the insulation.

The same refrigerator systems are also used to make cold-room and truck-body panels, and our cold-room panel systems are in turn used in industrial coolers and refrigerators. Solar collectors and hot-water tanks have their own systems: we make separate polyurethane systems for them, including for water-heater tanks. Across all of these insulation systems, the blowing agents are ozone-friendly, from the n-pentane, HFC and HFO families, and none contain HCFC-141b. We agree the blowing agent with you so that it suits your plant's equipment and the regulations in your market.

Choosing a polyurethane system for refrigerator or water-heater insulation starts from your appliance and your line, not from a catalogue. For appliances, the cavity shape and the way the foam is injected or poured decide the choice. From there we adapt one of our own formulations to your product and your line, drawing on more than 700 existing formulations. If your process uses moulds that need a release agent, we make our own, water-based and solvent-based. For suitable projects, our technical team can visit your line and run production trials with you.
