North American polyurethane output held steady at 9.18 billion pounds, CPI 2025 survey finds

The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council published its 2025 End-Use Market Survey on 7 October 2026 and announced the findings the next day. From 2023 through 2025 the North American polyurethanes industry remained stable, with a compound annual growth rate of 0.2%, reaching 9.18 billion pounds produced across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Rigid foam accounted for 40% of the market, flexible slabstock and moulded foams for 25% and binders and coatings for 20%.

The United States accounted for 81% of production across the region. The survey was produced by IAL and runs to more than 300 pages, covering production and raw material consumption, market trends, economic drivers and applications including construction and automotive. The full report is on sale through the American Chemistry Council.

Polyurea Magazine, which covered the preview session at the CPI conference in Orlando, reported that IAL Consultants put construction at 42% of demand, the largest end market, helped by boardstock and insulated metal panels for data centres. According to the same report, MDI demand rose slightly while TDI fell, and the bright spots included boardstock, insulated panels, one-component foam and concrete waterproofing coatings. The outlook for 2026 was described as flat, with early signs of a spray foam rebound cited as a tailwind and weaker vehicle, mattress and housing indicators among the headwinds.

The survey covers only the United States, Canada and Mexico, so it is not a measure of demand in Türkiye, the Gulf or Central Asia. It does show rigid foam as the largest single share of production in a stable market, with insulated panels among the bright spots.
