Wanhua's 1.5M-ton MDI line in Fujian expected mid-2026

Aerial view of a sprawling industrial complex

Wanhua Chemical's new 1.5 million-ton MDI capacity in Fujian, China is expected to commission in mid-2026, releasing an estimated 700,000 tonnes of incremental supply. The project is among the most-watched supply events for the global PU industry and is expected to influence MDI market dynamics into 2027.

1.5 million tonnes is a meaningful number against the global MDI installed base. Wanhua is already among the largest MDI producers worldwide; the Fujian addition both extends that lead and concentrates more of the swing-supply decision in a single producer. Industry analysts have flagged that the actual incremental output (~700kt cited) reflects a measured ramp rather than an instantaneous step.

Market impact will depend on the ramp pace and on how the new tonnes flow into Asia, EMEI and the Americas. A measured ramp into a still-tight market may bring relief to buyers without crashing pricing. A faster ramp into softening demand could be a more disruptive event. Either way, the planning horizon for buyers extends into 2027 and beyond.

For Turkish exporters serving the EMEA value chain, this is essentially a 12–24-month watch item rather than an immediate pricing signal. Trade flows, tariff settings, and the pace at which Wanhua commits volume into Europe specifically will determine whether the project shows up on landed costs in Türkiye in Q4 2026 or only later.
